We are vessels for the Lord, yet we may not always avail ourselves, so He may freely take us and pour into us what He desires – so we may become His massagers. When we allow the Lord to consume us by His Word, we become the message He sends out, where He calls us to speak on His behalf. Sometimes we need not say a word, while others, the Word will flow easily from our mouths in the situation that requires it. Today, we can be deceived by men and women of God because we only see them on screens or on a stage, and we do not see them in real life. Some quickly reveal who they are by the folly of their words, but some are highly skilled and do not. They may have the Lord speak correctly about Him and His Word, but the Lord does not have them, which is a deception among believers today. Unless we allow ourselves to become poured out for the Lord, so He may fill us – He cannot take hold of us so He may ‘know us.’ Matt 7:21-23. We bought a toaster the other day, and it is a good analogy for this. From the box picture, this toaster looked like shiny chrome, but upon opening it up, the chrome was plastic. Unless we handled it and got up and personal with it, we would have never known the difference. This is why it is crucial we are in close fellowship with other believers in Christ so we may hold each other accountable (to the Word) but also protect one another from falsities in our lives and among us.
The believer in Christ who is known by the Lord – becomes sharper in the things of His Kingdom and wiser in the things of this world who the god of this world rules over; 1 John 5:18-20. By contrast, those who are not known by the Lord are tossed to and fro, never able to come to the knowledge of the truth; 2 Tim 3:6-7, because they have not been anchored in Christ. By this, His Word will not just be something we know and can recite, but it becomes who we are so that we can share it with others because it is alive in us; John 7:38.
The Lord warned the church in Sardis, Rev 3:1-6 that they were dying. If we do not tend to the living water in us, it will become a dead sea and good for nothing. To the degree we seek for the Word to have its work in us is the degree we become its message and can speak its power, as Paul describes:
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1:18
And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 1 Cor 2:4
For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power. 1 Cor 4:20
We each have a message that the Lord wants us to deliver but not all will. May we ask the Lord to stir in us afresh a zeal for going out to find it in His Word, in His Spirit, and in Truth. That we would offer Him our vessels so He may fill us to overflowing – Amen!
