Sensitive or Numb to the Spirit of God?

When we give ourselves in the surrender of our lives to Jesus we become for Him a Temple so He may dwell.  If we, who have made profession of faith in Christ are not sensitive to the Spirit of God is indicator that something is wrong.  Being sensitive to the Spirit of God displays like this:

  • Quick to see our offense when we sin against God or our fellow brother and neighbor to which we make quick (and sincere) restitution
  • We develop the hatred of sin and look to avoid it
  • We no longer desire to be friends with the world and engage in its pleasures, systems and philosophy
  • We desire to live clean and set apart lives (holy) unto God
  • We desire to serve God and do His will

The evidence that God is dwelling in us will manifest when we are actively involved in relationship with Him.  The closer we are to God, the more sensitive we are to the things of His heart.  We become sensitive when we work out what He directs us to through His Word;

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Phil 2:12-14

When you look at the priests who ministered to God in the Tabernacle of God you see how serious they took their position.  To take for granted or act matter of factly would bring certain death to them!  The Tabernacle and Temple of the Old Covenant is a picture of us in the new and well worth the study so we may grasp the Holiness of God and His strict requirements for His Priests. For we too are His Priests through Jesus Christ, and should pay heed to what this position is about.

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 1 Peter 2:9

Today we have much that is religious but lacks sensitivity to the Spirit of God.  Though sermons are heard, bibles studies are attended and gatherings are happening souls remain unchanged.  There is no evidence in these lives that the power of the living God is moving in them.  We must be careful that no matter how religious and devout we are this is not what qualifies us as God’s temples.  It is absolutely essential we observe in ourselves by noting what stirs us and how are we moved in response.  The Spirit of God will always move us out from ourselves and into the things of Christ where we grow in our spiritual man for His desire is that we are consumed by Him and we increase in faithfulness to the Lord and His Word.

Let us ask ourselves:  am I sensitive or numb to the Spirit of God?

The Lord’s desire is to fill us, with Himself.  The more we are willing to give Him to fill, and how much of Him will He reveal to us.  The life of the saint of God is vibrant, and ever increasing.  If this is not you, time to invite Him in, surrender all – and give to Him – yourself.

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?  For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Cor 6:19-20
