Fear is a Spirit

Jesus came to earth commissioned by God to save souls from (eternal) death through His death on the cross, burial and resurrection.  Through this work, sin and death no longer have power over us as they once did.

In Christ’s perfect love we have been allowed to rest – in Him so that we no longer are tormented by fear.

Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.  We love Him because He first loved us. 1 John 4:17-19

If we do not believe and place our trust in Jesus, which is our faith, we will be given to fear by default.  Fear is a spirit present in this world that seeks to influence and overcome us.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 1 Timothy 1:8

This world certainly has presented many trials and tribulations to test us – lately, and we cannot let them influence our state of mind, for if we who believe are given to fear then we lie to ourselves saying we believe in God, and more solemnly, we lie to God.  And are like those who James describes ‘like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind….he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his waysJames 1:5-8.

When Jesus revealed to the Jews who He was, they were prevented from understanding His Words because they were unwilling to let go of their (human) understanding and pride.

Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.” John 6:53-58

From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. John 6:66

Only those willing to let go of ourselves and human inclinations will be ones able to continue to walk with the Lord Jesus Christ to hear and understand His instructions through His Word.

Let us hear the instruction and seek the understanding that the Lord has given us to overcome fear in the Word of God and not from the minds of men!

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.     Matt 11:28-29
