First – Recognize the Void

We were designed by God and made for God.  He made a way so we may be filled with Him.  Can you imagine?  The living God, the creator of all things, coming inside us?  This is nothing more than the miraculous!   ‘Behold, I make all things new’ – says God.  When He enters our lives, we will not be the same.

Previously, we are souls who are slaves.  Bob Dylan sang these words, ‘you gotta serve somebody,’ which was insightful to what is true.   Many will discount God and deny His existence; no matter how strong of a stand they have, they will nevertheless be servants to someone or something to become their god.

We have a void in us that only God can fill.  When we do not recognize Jesus to be who is to fill us, we will fill it with other things.  Because it is contrary to how we were designed, the stuff we fill up on will only bring us much trouble and even ruin.  The highs will be outweighed by the many lows. Doing it this way is like throwing out the instruction manual and using the product without the proper instructions.

The tell–tale sign we have done this is we will not have inner peace and will be discontented.  We will struggle with worry, fear and anxiety.  We will have troubles that seem to repeat; same story but different actors.  We will have addictions, compulsions and mood swings.  We will look to people and things to make us happy – and will always be disappointed.  Many of us will go through many partners, friendships or places of employment because of this.  The void will only deepen as we continue to try to remedy it ourselves.

Jesus says that it is only He that is the way, the life and the truth (John 14:6) – and that no one will ever attain these unless it is through Him – His way.

How to fill the void

It is imperative to recognize that we have this void to start in order to be set free from it and that we have tried to fill it – our way.  Next, to understand that we are in sin by doing life according to our way and not God’s. To not only see but to acknowledge it to God is crucial so that we may receive what comes next.  To be clear, all that God expects from us is to realize that we need Him and that doing it our way will not work, and we commit to turning from doing it our way to His way – this is called repentance and a new way of life.  Said another way, is we surrender, wave the white flag and concede to God.  He cannot receive us unless we come to this point, which is the end of ourselves.  Then, He takes us and gives to us His Spirit, and this is where it gets beyond good!  At this moment, we will realize how dead we were because by His Spirit, we come alive to the things of God! He gives us desires we never had, and the desires we previously had will, one by one, just seem to fall away.  He provides us with love for the bible, and we read it like the best tasting food we have ever had.  We can now love God, not by our own will, but because His Spirit loves God and now is in us.   We literally have been given a new spiritual heart that radically changes us and we become new creations;

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. – 1 Cor 5:17

We will see how our lives previous to Him were full of futility because He gives us a purpose, that we live for Him, by Him and through Him.  Only God can do this, and this is done – because Jesus Christ died and rose from the grave, making it possible for us.

Many are dead and cannot understand or desire God – because they have not yet been made alive by His Son.  They are lost and are looking for love in all the wrong places.  They seek fulfillment and are like buckets with holes in them and will constantly be drained of whatever they fill themselves with.   They have thrown out the instructions that God has given – as the creator of our bodies and souls.

In spite of all of this, God continually calls out – and may these ones hear today!  Because this is the Good News!  God has made a way where there was no way – to become a son or daughter of the highest and holy God! He calls out for these ones to come and join Him in His KIngdom that is waiting – for them to take their place, with Him!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:15
