Is racism the culprit to the brutality we are seeing today?
Though it could certainly be one of the many catalysts it is by no means THE reason that such violence is being committed. In fact, WE all have the capability in contributing to the problem. Unless we have it dealt with, the prescribed way – we will be contributors either willingly or unknowingly and counted as much as in the wrong as the violent offender that we have nailed as our poster boy(s) today.
The problem is SIN. We each are not without it and are accountable for it (if we choose to deal with it our own way). Some deny it’s existence and power and some have taken the prescribed road to deal with it – so it no longer has the power it once had. If we lined up 100 people and could see as God sees, we would see that each contains things such as murder, violence and hatred which are all deserving the justice of God, which is the penalty of death. If we looked at them through our own eyes, we would see ourselves, our grandmothers, and good Samaritans. Jesus has disclosed that wickedness lies within our hearts – and there is no respecter of people; black, white, racists, good Samaritans, and all deserve the death penalty.
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. Matt 15:18-19.
Some manifest sin through violence, some in more subtle ways that we do not see – but in God’s eyes, He sees the truth of our heart. To say racism is THE issue that must be dealt with is like putting a bandaid on a hole in a boat full of holes! The problem is not the hole, the problem is the need for a new boat!
On a side – note, in many media outlets, we can see how they no longer serve to present the news, but rather exist to serve agendas and bias, and in this, the truth is often exploited as a whole. So, we can throw this on the pile of the issues and problems that entangles society today!
No matter what any man, woman or group would propose to do – it will not solve the real problem. We need only look at the course of history to see our track record.
Jesus took upon Himself all hatred, murders, greed, rape, and on and on, or in other words – the sin of the entire world, that of all history and that yet to come – what we see, and are majoring on today is but a speck of what He took upon Himself. He took the penalty of it ALL – and made the way for a better (the best) life for us to live.
When we cry out and demand society to do ONLY what God can and has done, we are shaking our fist in the face of God, saying what He has done is not good enough!
‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved’ John 3:16-17
The reality and answer for the tumult being displayed today is not revolution nor reformation – but REGENERATION – or our need for a heart transplant. We can obtain this only as we wave the white flag of surrender to God and submit our lives to Him to accept His gift of His Son to us, which is forgiveness of sin – for we are all born with sin in our DNA so we are in desperate need of a new heart – that is the very heart of God, in us. Though this is our first step it is just the beginning! For when we join God, we are in for the biggest revolt and protest of our lives that unlike what we see occurring today, this one takes place inwardly. Our flesh will rise up to protest our new allegiance to which we must put all stops to deny it – that this voice would no longer be obeyed. We must rise up against our own flesh and say ‘No!’ to it, and as we seek after the Spirit of Truth we will make our way out of the mire and muck we have lived and enjoyed and been entangled in all our lives. It is not until we do, that we will see how we were so deceived and were part of the problem of society.
We become part of God’s Army, and how we battle is not how the world battles. Our battleground is fought in our closets and on our knees.
