Jesus says that He is our food and drink. Today, more than ever we must get a grip on what this means. Satan tempted Jesus in His time of hunger – with telling Him to turn stones into bread;
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” Matt 4:4.
Most of us are on lockdown, forced to stay in our homes to ride out this very serious time. I would encourage all of us, who profess Jesus Christ as Lord, to shut in with the Lord and make this a time of study and solitude in Him. That we would take His body and His blood and feed from Him so that we are made strong in the things of God; John 6:22-70. I suggest we first ask ourselves this question, do we really understand the Lord’s body and blood as our food? The truth is, most do not know what this means, except to eat wafers and drink grape juice on communion Sunday at their church and so have missed it. Many of Christ’s disciples walked away when Jesus spoke this commandment out – it was beyond their understanding and were not willing to hear. In the same way, there are those who attend churches and are not willing to go beyond the grape juice and cracker – and by doing so, they too turn away from Christ to go with Him no more.
His Body and blood as our food, is truth that can only be comprehended by the Spirit – and if it is not yet grasped I suggest it be sought after. None of us can truly grasp its grand depth but all of us need to lay hold of what the Spirit will teach us as we apply our heart and mind to know.
We are a people who have been given everlasting life and our food is Jesus Christ and in our taking Him this way, He sustains us in all that we will face. We are a people who will have the peace of God and will know His joy, in our trials and tribulations – and rejoice! James 1:2-8.
If we are not anchored in Christ, and abide in Him – we are at risk of being swept away with the rest of the world in its fear and rhetoric. I don’t think that we should hoard like what is happening today, but would encourage we stockpile one thing – the Word of God into our hearts and minds.
“Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.” John 6:27
Jesus warned His disciples to ‘watch and pray’ and He tells us the same. Time is critical and demands for this, pray that our faith is strengthened – so we will endure in the hour of trial.
We are granted all spiritual help and the peace of God AS we seek Him. Let this time cause us to go deep down into Jesus Christ that we may obtain His refreshing so we may offer the hope that is in us to all those who are fearful and hopeless. Let this time of world crisis be a reminder to all of us, to ‘get our spiritual house in order’ for we are truly in the last days.
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Pet 1:1-4

Now that gathering is prohibited in many places, I hope that many ‘Christians’ will find out that faith is not about a building and a weekly meeting, but about a personal relationship. This is the time to seek the Lord and draw nearer to Him.

A lot of churches are not having services now so their members don’t have access to the grape juice and crackers. That makes this a particularly important time to understand what Jesus really meant by feeding on his body and blood.
