The term addiction comes from the world and what the bible refers as the practice of sin.  Often, it is made concession for, among the Christian community and treated like a disease where in truth, it is rooted in the lust of our flesh and surrounded by darkness and whoever is stuck in addiction of any kind is not found in Christ.  Where in contrast, a Christian is one who has been set free, and who walks in the freedom that has been bought for them.  We no longer are under the law that condemns us, but now live under a new law, the law of Christ.   This law says we are to no longer live according to our flesh where our natural (lustful) desires thrive, but to walk according to the Spirit – where our life is hidden and cannot be touched by sin and its lusts Col 3:3.   We have been sanctified (set apart – for holiness) by Jesus so that we may walk to learn this new path 2 Tim 2:21.   To say we are Christian and still live addicted is not really true because we are not living the life that has been bought for us.  We can certainly be found by Christ though, in our addictions – but will not remain in them because His life He died to give us frees us from them so we would not remain in them.  It is the putting off – the old man, and its baggage, and putting on Jesus Christ that is the key to our walk in the redemption of Christ and what is often not understood, taught nor walked in – in a great majority of the Christian community Col 3:8-10.  We must understand that all addiction is attached and part of the old life that is to be done away with by the new life we gain in Christ.  Many can say they have faith in Christ, but remain addicted, but is that faith?  Faith is taking what He has done for us and walking in it because we believe it.  Do you believe you are free?

Anyone can say they believe in Jesus Christ, remember even the demons believe  – it is what we do with what we believe that counts.  If we remain bound in our sin it is time to rethink some things regarding what we believe for we who are found in Christ are born to be overcomers – in all things do not let anyone tell you different Rom 8:37.

What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! ¹⁶ Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? ¹⁷ But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. ¹⁸ And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. ¹⁹ I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.

²⁰ For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. ²¹ What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. ²² But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. ²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6:15-23
