The Famine of Fellowship

As we who have the Spirit in us, are led by Him and subject ourselves to Him we will seek the fellowship found in the Holy Spirit where we are unified into one Body.  This kind of fellowship, we live and die for – and love one another in and is a rarity.

What I find large in scale is that there is no understanding of this kind of fellowship nor of the desire for it.  There is no longing to obtain it or no sense of loss for its lack.  There is no cry for it to God.  Why is this I ask?  I would have to say all too often Christianity is preached, received and practiced on the level of carnality, and is sown in and to the flesh.  Our flesh cannot be found in the Spirit, it despises the Spirit and will not want anything to do with it!  We may have bible studies, workshops, events, Sunday services, conferences and retreats easily participated in and call this fellowship – that can just as easily be found among secular gatherings and groups – because they are conducted on the level of the flesh.  The flesh is served to be gratified and satisfied and there is no room made for the Spirit of God.  They have been fed a lie, and do not see that they fill themselves with a spiritual type of Kraft dinner and because they feel full they do not realize how truly empty they are of the Living God.

This is where I grieve.  That there is no understanding nor want to understand that the Spirit is not among the so very many.  Who out there feels this loneliness within them as they are among the Christian masses?  Who out there have hearts that are broken as they discover time and time again the many who are brothers and sisters are in name only?  Who out there have the cry in their heart as I do in loss for true unity of the Spirit with one another?  May I encourage you that we are together, though we do not connect physically but we gather together in the Spirit.  We must stay strong, and seek our God to sustain us in our times of famine.  Oh how sweet it is brother and sister when we do come together and refresh one another in His Spirit’s flow!

May God give us respite in the days of famine, and we be drawn to one another in His Spirit to enjoy His fellowship in the bond of His love one with another – Amen!

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life— the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us—that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full. 1 John 1:1-4

  1. O how true is this! We experience this lack of desire for true fellowship all the time. Christians totally fail to see what a beautiful gift and blessing it is to truly be one in the Spirit. But it is a sign of our times, the apostate church, the lovers of self…May God have mercy and the eyes of many (re)opened to the truth.
